October 30, 2012

Long awaited trip to Cameron.

so after we went to Bangkok, we started planning our next holiday. and since Jean doesn't like the beach or anywhere warm, that pretty much wiped out the whole south east asia. Cheryll had the brilliant idea of heading up to Cameron YTL resort for a 3 days 2 nights all meals included getaway. it was nice and cooling and we could just spend our days being tai tais; having scones and sipping tea.

a week before the trip, me and Cheryll went grocery shopping to stock up on our snacks. we got super rings! chipster, pods, chocolates and all that jazz. and this was like the week after i went climbing where i rediscovered the osom-ness of snapple. so we decided to get one each. but since Jean and Mel wasn't there, had to take pictures for them instead.

my favourite is cranberry rasberry! is so so good!

the plan on the day was to meet at Mel's house. i got there pretty early and while waiting...

:)

i sat in front while Cheryll drove, soo the journey up wasn't too nauseating for me. but the 2 girls at the back didn't do so good hehe. no matter which route you take, it's inevitable laaa, sure will get car sick one!!

it's nice that upon arrival at the hotel, you get a complimentary chrysanthemum tea to sooth the nausea.

this is the hotel lobby. it's a bit blur cause i actually took this in a hurry on the last day before we left.

hi Cheryll with her tea!

and this is what you see when you sit at the lobby, the dining room. or something like that.

and in our room... oh btw, we got ourselves like a 2 bedroom suite sort of thing. soo all of us could be in the same room... comfortably.

and this greeted us on the big bed.
it was to celebrate Jean's belated birthday!

it is i, in case you didn't know.

complimentary fruits + jam. i ate the banana upon arrival cause i was starving!

one last picture with the elephant towel and rose petals before we swooped everything off the bed.

and group photo before we headed out to lunch. oh btw, if you were looking forward to seeing us getting all dressed up for afternoon tea and shit, yeah.... it didn't happen. i call it our Sloth Holiday!

we each got ourselves a burger and cheryll had to get a chicken burger. hers wasn't too good but our burgers were pretty damn good. but it's possible cause we were starving! but the burger had 2 beef patties in it. it was definitely satisfying.

cause we were having a headache and feeling tired from the drive up, we got our desserts sent to our room.
the tiramisu was very meh...

but the strawberries really huge and juicy and yums (they are either imported or the special batches of strawberry cause i don't see no big strawberries in cameron!). but the chocolate and cream dip were very meh too.

we thought we actually came prepared with HDMI cables and all but jeng jeng jeng, the TV WAS AN OLD TV! soooo, we didnt get to connect our hard disk to the TV. luckily Cheryll brought her laptop.

we kicked off our weekend with our first movie after lunch; Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham! it was Jean's first time catching it. it's like me and Mel's millionth time. and no matter how many times i watch it, i still cry buckets ok. i love it! to me, it's the best Hindi movie of all time! towards the end, all four of us were sobbing our eyes out lol. and oh, the bed was so huge, all four of us could fit comfortably in it. which explains why we pretty much never left the bed the whole weekend except for meal times.

for dinner, we went to try the Japanese restaurant which served shabu shabu and that was when all hell broke lose. the sukiyaki soup was really, really sweet to the point where it was inedible. and due to some misunderstanding, Jean got pretty angry and even the chef came out to apologize. he kept asking us whether was there anything he could make for us. but by time, all our apetites were ruined. and i think Cheryll and Mel were full from rice and miso soup cause that were the only things that tasted alright there. the chef kept asking and asking what we wanted and to get rid of him, i told him just get us ice cream in hopes to cool Jean down a little. but the ice cream was quite meh too.

it was really surprising how meh all the food tasted considering the price we paid and it being a 5 star hotel and all.

but oh, due to laziness and the whole holiday mood, we were extremely underdressed. we didnt even bother changing out of our pajamas, just add a sweater/hoodie and we were good to go. just like the good old uni days.

even wanting to put on contact lens was such an effort.

we came back to our room after dinner and voila!

Happy Belated Birthday Jean!

i think that night, we watched Tangled cause Jean hasn't seen it before too. it's such a sweet cartoon sigh*

after that, me and Mel watched part of Josie and the Pussycats until we couldnt open our eyes anymore and went to bed.

next morning...

i'm pretty sure we went to breakfast in our pajamas.

breakfast was pretty bad. basically, they have a small buffet table for like hash brown, sauteed mushrooms, sausages, baked beans, etc. and at the table, you order sorta like a main dish i.e. eggs benedict or 2 eggs cooked any way you want or pancakes. when the eggs came, it look really pathetic. should have taken a picture. but like it's a huge plate with just 2 poached eggs in the center. nothing else! the eggs were ridiculously rubbery and tasteless. overall, it was a bad, bad breakfast. and when my breakfast is bad, it kinda just ruins the day.

after breakfast we played taboo till it was time for tea. finally, we decided to dress up a little. since it's afternoon tea and all.

but it wasn't worth the effort laa. the tea tower thingy was quite bad overall. the sandwiches was practically empty. and they served like just cucumber sandwich. yuck. i was so upset that i didnt even bother taking any pictures. i should have though. but you can probably google it. it definitely looks better than it taste.

during tea, me and Mel were super semangat cause we were planning on walking to the market nearby. didn't bother driving cause it was really jam the whole weekend. we went back pretty quick to our room cause it's as if we didn't know how to sit on chairs anymore, all we knew how to do was lie in bed.

soo, Jean and Cheryll left for their spa and it was left me and Mel in the room. at first we had a whole dilemma on what to wear. Mel almost wore like her pajamas shorts out. and i was considering putting on my pajamas pants. then Mel asked me, on a scale of 1 to 10, how keen are you on walking there. well, when we were having tea, it was probably an 8 but upon arrival to our room, it became like a 4. and Mel was like OMG me too! we decided to google map to check out the distance and all. it was about 1 over km away but it's like an uphill walk. sooooo we gave up and introduced Mel to Source Code. it's a really good movie that you should watch if you haven't. and then we had a little karaoke session with my ipod and had a Criminal Minds marathon. best decision ever to stay in the room!

and oh, while the girls were at the Spa, they kinda mentioned how disappointed they were in the food and all that and we actually got a call from the Manager checking up on us. and when the girls came back from the Spa, they served us more strawberries cause they happened to mention it was the only yummy thing there.

this time, we didnt want to go to the Japanese restaurant anymore and opted for the Western dinner instead and BAM the Manager was waiting for us. he brought us to a little corner and got the chef out to personally greet us and he was the one taking our order. even opened a bottle of champagne for us!

and let me tell you, the dinner was pretty damn amazing. the risotto was absolutely delicious!!! the steak was cooked really well. and even dessert was quite yums. if only every single meal was like this, then we wouldn't be disappointed at all. but this YTL management seriously has class. then the Manager actually offered to refund us half our money for our meals but it was just too much laaa. soo we declined.

excitedly, we headed back to our room for more Criminal Minds!! after it started getting late, Jean and Mel watched Pride and Prejudice. ahh, such a romantic movie, that one. yeah, it was really a non-stop movie/tv series marathon. cause when we're getting ready or just lazing around, we would have Big Bang Theory playing in the background. there wasn't a moment where we weren't watching something.

next morning, Mel didn't bother with breakfast.
i ordered sunny side up eggs cause it's practically impossible to screw that up and well, it was eggs laa. but the sauteed mushrooms were definitely yummier. the chef was probably on leave the day before.

we ended our last day there with watching Toy Story 3.

okay ian is calling.
bye!
