what's a weekend without a blog entry! more so when i actually have work to do muahahaha.
after checking in into our hotel, we went exploring with what was left of the day. Cheryll recently went to Taiwan, so she was our free tour guide for this trip.
and thus, began our food journey.
first stop was Ah Chung Mian Xien's mee sua at Ximending.
me and Cheryll didn't like oysters. so Jean gets to eat all of em!
next stop, crazy sweet juicy yummy pink guava, also somewhere in Ximending area.
that was the first time i'm seeing pink guava. it's really, really good. shame Malaysia doesn't have it.
this Mochi thingy wasn't in our list but since there was a queue for it, might as well try it.
after putting it on the stove, it expands and becomes all fluffy and then they drown it in sauce i.e. black sesame, "cheese" which was actually just susu pekat, peanuts and a bunch of other stuff we didn't try.
this was the "cheese".
and here we have the peanuts and black sesame. the peanut one was really good. worth a try!
once we were done browsing Ximending, Cheryll brought us to Shilin Market.
where we had the most amazing Kentang Goreng Dengan Serbuk Yang Sangat Sedap.
we went for black pepper and seaweed. kinda odd. but amazing!
hello Shilin Market. please forgive the not so good quality of images. this is what happens when one is lazy to carry around a camera.
this is us with RM90 worth of fruits. there's melon, guava, mango, some other fruit. yeah, we went abit crazy cause fruits there are amazingly sweet.
to ease the division of money, each of us would contribute TWD500 into the tabung which is handled by Cheryll. so all expenses will be paid by her. whenever the tabung ran out of money, we simply topped up another TWD500.
unless if they're getting food i can't eat. like this.
pork sausage in a something something. but Jean super, super loves it!
and of course, bubble tea is a must! i lost count of how many bubble teas Jean had during the trip. she was one happy girl.
and our highlight of our visit to Shilin Market was looking for Uncle Ice Cream Popiah. he's usually at a spot but he wasn't there. so we kinda went searching for him and thanks to Jean's sharp eyes, we found him! this was probably the most recommended item by everybody.
Step 1: uncle will shave this huge ass block of peanuts.
Step 2: Uncle puts shaven peanuts onto popiah skin.
Step 3: and then he puts the ice cream. this was passionfruit and yam. i'm usually not a fan of yam but this combination was really good.
parsley is optional but i'm not a fan of parsley. Jean says its really good though.
Step 4: he wraps it all up and it's done!
Step 5: you pose with it
Step 6: and then you eat it!
to wash it all down, we got fried chicken larger than our head lol.
sooo sooo good. puts uncle bob to shame.
not my favourite picture but it's the only one with all 3 of us in front of Shilin Market sign.
this marked the end of Day 1.
and here's our haul.
we did other stuff besides eating the next few days. hehe.
