i was excitedly about to read the book Mel just sent to me. but alas, my kindle has to battery. seriously, first world problems man.
so, i was done with Day 1.
on Day 2, Cheryll made me korean. or rather just a really annoying looking person. eye brow pencils makes a whole difference to a person's face.
oh-hi-come-slap-me face. it annoyed the hell out of Cheryll and Jean whenever i gave them a sad face lol.
so breakfast was provided. due to my pork free requirement, food was a lil limited. but the porridge with "sambal" and eu char kueh was pretty good.
coffee was from a coffee machine and juice was served in a bikar.
the eating area was decorated with figurines and comics and board games.
i love the concept of our hotel!
so anyway, Cheryll wanted to bring us to this really osom Sushi place in a market but she couldn't really remember which market it was. honestly now, i don't remember which market it was too :S
this blurry accidental picture might help with where we were hehe.
as we were searching for the market, we came across this pretty temple and decided to go in and check it out. thanks to the previous picture, i know now what it's called.
Welcome to Xian Tian Temple!
the sorta inside.
you can go in some more and that's where people pray.
oh boy, who took the picture?
we then found the market but it wasn't THE market.
google says this is called Addiction Aquatic Development or Taipei Fish Market.
they had a lot of variety of sushi/sashimi and they were selling for a really reasonable prices. we initially wanted to try the Japanese restaurant there but it seemed ridiculously expensive. so we resorted to just buying sashimi from here.
got the whole packet of salmon sashimi for only TWD180 which is approximately RM18. it was super thick and fresh. yum!!
there's an area outside where you can just stand and eat. and that's what we did since the weather was really nice and cooling.
chopstick, sink and tissue provided.
oleh itu, saya gembira.
our next stop was the National Palace museum. most of the time we travelled by train and this was one of the few times we took a cab cause it's just sooo much easier sometimes.
le grand stair case towards the entrance of more stair cases.
those moments where Cheryll no layan me.
simply because i like this picture :)
once we got into the museum, no more pictures were allowed.
we saw the Jade Cabbage and the mini olive carving.
what impressed me the most was the Curio boxes and the super duper miniature carvings of chains and stuff. crazy amazing! makes you wonder what kind of super tools were they using.
anyway, the above picture is an example of the curio boxes. they are like this little puzzle boxes whereby maybe 50 items are hidden in it and you have to open its hidden drawers and compartments to find all of them. i guess it was what entertainment was back then without TV and smart phones. but i would love one. very, very much!
after the the Museum, Cheryll somehow discovered the location of the Sushi place she wanted to bring us to initially. this one, i really don't know where and don't know how to google for it.
this is the shop. how it works is that you tell the Uncle Chef GO! and he starts serving you sushi, salad, crab, sashimi and he'll just keep going until you tell him to stop.
slabs and slabs of fresh sashimi. you see that wooden thing? that's where he'll just put your meal. no pictures of the food cause he was serving them so fast there was no time! but the tuna belly was super duper osom. even on an almost exploding stomach, you can't help but finish it all!!! this was probably our most expensive meal in Taiwan, it came to about RM100+ per person. but quality and taste was crazy amazing!
after lunch or rather it was already afternoon tea time, we headed back to Shilin market with every intention of looking for Uncle Popiah again. but first, massage time!
one of the best massage i've been. probably cause my feet were really aching from all the walking.
nothing like a good ol' soaking in hot jelly water.
shortly after the massage, i had a ridiculous urge to go to the toilet for a no 2. cheryll and jean told me to go to starbucks and they'll look at starbucks tumblers. i thought someone was going to buy something but nops. i just went and left. in my defence, it was a matter of urgency! cause it was the beginning of my stomach upset :(
which means i had to forgo what Jean and Cheryll swears is the most awesome popiah ever! or most awesome in Taiwan or something like that. but my stomach was feeling so uncomfortable i didn't dare aggravate it anymore. and it wasn't gonna be easy looking for another toilet.
but oh, our whole intention of going to Shilin Market again was to find Uncle Popiah but he was on the run that day. didn't manage to find him and had to resort to mediocre ice cream popiah which just used kacang serbuk instead of the shaven peanut block thing. it was a make-do that didn't really satisfy us. but oh well.
we did more shopping in Shilin Market that night. my favourite purchase was probably my bear ears.
and my shoes. it was actually slightly too big. but the guy put in a free padding and tadah it fits perfectly. love, love, love them! they are now my weekend shoes.
wanted to get pictures of Cheryll's instagram but it doesn't allow me to save it through the computer and my phone's too far for me to print screen it. oh well.
it's late now and it's time for bed. gnite!
